Pregnancy Massage...
Having a baby is a wonderful experience, but being pregnant does tax the mother-to-be. Now, more than ever, expectant mothers are finding out that prenatal holistic massage can help make pregnancy less physically stressful, building strength and confidence.
As a mother-to-be, you will experience many dramatic physical changes, including additional stress on the lower back and joints as your delivery date approaches and your body prepares for the "big push". Treatments at Back to Touch can support this process by relieving everyday aches and pains.
I can also advise on postural and breathing techniques, helping you to flourish in your pregnancy. Visualisations and Meditation/Relaxation Techniques can help calm and reassure so you can look forward to the birth with joy.
Holistic Massage during pregnancy puts you back in touch with your body; supporting the physical changes and giving you space to enjoy the experience.
What to Expect during Pregnancy Massage
While receiving pregnancy massage, you lay on your side - supported by pillows under your head, tummy and knees for your comfort - to enable access to your back. You will be properly covered at all times, as with any other oil massage, except for the area being massaged.
As pregnancy progresses it is common to want to change position or adjust ones body to get more comfortable - as your comfort is of the utmost importance, if you need to move or change position please do say so.
Before the first prenatal massage can take place you will need to tell me about your pregnancy - including any problems or complications - and about your general health. In the presence of contraindications such as diabetes, high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia you may need prior approval from your consultant, midwife or primary doctor.
Benefits of Pregnancy Massage
Uniquely, massage serves a pregnant woman by providing the experience and model of loving, nurturing touch. From the moment of birth, the new baby needs gentle touches, soothing voices, and a calm environment. Once your baby arrives, you will continue to benefit from regular massage and can then introduce those benefits to your little one.
During the treatment we can assist with passive muscle stretches and joint movements to relieve cramping, fatigue, and musculoskeletal pain, helping to increase range of motion and flexibility.
There is no need to suffer back pain, simply because you're pregnant. Sciatic pain can arise during the final trimester as the weight of the unborn child settles lower in the body and the hips begin to spread, creating extra pressure on the muscles and nerves of the spine and lower back area. This pain, which is often caused by constriction in the gluteus and piriformis muscles, can be eased tremendously by massage.
As the time of delivery approaches it becomes increasingly difficult to find a comfortable position. Regular massage can provide welcome relief by decreasing the severity and frequency of leg cramps and reducing the swelling of legs, hands and feet. More frequent sessions can be extremely beneficial during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy and can help to prepare muscles for use during the delivery process.
Let us help you enjoy your pregnancy by administering massage therapy designed specifically for you as your body undergoes significant changes over the duration of your pregnancy.
