Pulsing is a form of bodywork which uses movement to assist the release of tension in the body – be it physical, mental or emotional. This rhythmic and dynamic form of bodywork allows the client to increase the sensitivity to their body and to simply let go.
Unlike more traditional forms of massage where-by muscle/soft tissue tension is released through direct manipulation – Pulsing works more on the skeletal system, improving mobility and range of movement, and a by-product of that movement is often soft-tissue tension is released as well.
Throughout the session the I use a rhythmic rocking motion to keep the whole body moving. The speed and depth of rocking will vary according to what is required – a need to be more gentle and nurturing or more energising – and the flow will change as relaxation increases and limbs become more mobile or through emotional release.
At times limbs maybe stretched, bounced, lifted, shaken or rotated to encourage increased mobility. Many people often hold deep-seated tension in their neck and shoulders, and whilst working on these areas the client is encouraged to relax into the movement, breath and connect with their body’s natural rhythms.
Many clients feedback is that they feel nurtured, supported, deeply relaxed and on-the-whole light… Paradoxically many feel lighter emotionally, yet ‘like a rag doll’ physically – and often extra time is required at the end of the session for the client to re-engage with their surroundings and be able to sit up. It is a nurturing, blissful and liberating form of bodywork – with the client engaging in ‘the process’ more and more with each session as they are able to go with the flow and trust the process. Few others forms of bodywork leave the receiver with such a feeling of profound relaxation and invigoration.

When is it used?...
From a physical viewpoint (and I guess a massage therapist’s view) Pulsing can be used as a manual therapy to promote deep relaxation and musculoskeletal realignment. However, on a more ‘energetic level’ and in its original form as a true body-mind therapy, it encourages emotional release, enabling the therapist to work with the client through the layers of body armour – and in my experience, a range of emotions may be experienced in one session, playfulness and laughter, anger, tears – often to the surprise of the client.
It can be used as a ‘stand-alone’ treatment or some of the techniques can be incorporated into other forms of massage – the techniques have many uses and I have found it to be an invaluable tool in my therapeutic ‘kit’.
Being trained in such a wide range of massage/bodywork techniques enables me of offer a particular technique/modality in its own right (such as Pulsing) and to truly tailor a treatment to suit your specific needs.
