Chavutti-ThaiTM

Chavutti-Thai is a powerful new full body treatment that combines the best elements of two ancient massage techniques.

Thai Massage…
Traditional Thai massage was created over 2,500 years ago in India and travelled into Thailand with the spread of Buddhism. It is still taught and practised at many temples and follows the four principals of Buddhist teaching of loving kindness, compassion, vicarious joy and equanimity. Described as “the lazy person’s yoga” because the practitioner stretches the recipient, Thai massage releases tensions and promotes relaxation.

Combined with Chavutti Thirumal…
Chavutti Thirumal massage developed in the Kerala region of South India, alongside the fighting system known as Kalarippayatu. This martial art relied on testing the combatant’s mental and physical resources to the limit and Chavutti Thirumal was vital in promoting suppleness and flexibility. Chavutti Thirumal means “foot pressure on the body”. The practitioner uses her foot to stroke the length of the body, using a series of deep continuous movements to work on the muscular and skeletal systems simultaneously.

…Creates Something Special
As the first part of a Chavutti-Thai massage, Thai stretches open and relax the body, lengthening the major muscle groups in the legs, arms, hips, back and chest. The client, dressed in light, loose clothing, feels comfortable and calm and the practitioner uses this time as a body reading session, tuning in to the client’s energy.

For the Chavutti massage, the client lies unclothed, face down on a floor mat, modesty preserved by a towel arranged in sumo wrestler style. The practitioner dips her feet in warm oil and, holding on to a support rope that runs at head level across the treatment room, makes long strokes with the whole foot, down the length of the client’s body. Using toes and heels to unlock knotted muscle fibres, the practitioner can employ her weight for deep massage. Chavutti Thirumal relieves muscular aches and alleviates mild postural problems by gently stretching and realigning the spine. The blood, circulatory and lymphatic systems all benefit from deep massage. Tissues increase oxygen uptake and release toxins. The body feels longer, leaner and fully stretched.

The final part of a Chavutti-Thai session is the foot massage. As in reflexology, the aim of this massage is to activate the body’s own healing powers. Foot massage has been used for thousands of years to treat many complaints as it stimulates the internal organs through sensory nerve channels, mapped on the sole of the foot. This part of the session is designed to gently bring the client back to earth after the heady experiences of the Chavutti-Thai massage.

Unlock Your Potential
Chavutti-Thai massages the chakra and meridian lines to release blocked energy, leaving the client refreshed and energised. And, in a reciprocal arrangement, the practitioner enjoys her own mild reflexology treatment as she uses her feet as massage tools.

In short, Chavutti-Thai is a mind, body and soul treatment, designed to unlock the potential trapped in tense muscles and a tired spirit. It is especially effective for those involved in physical work or sports.
