Holistic & Theraputic Massage
For many centuries, massage has offered us a natural way of looking after our physical and emotional well-being.

Holistic Massage is a hands-on treatment using strokes from many therapies, including Thai, Shiatsu, Swedish, Indian Head, hands-free, deep tissue, sports and remedial techniques. Drawing on so many massage techniques, I can tailor every treatment to suit your precise needs. This unique bodywork nurtures the whole person – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Regular massage can enhance your quality of life and general well-being, reducing stress, increasing energy levels, relieving pain from many physical disorders and boosting your immune system, helping to prevent illness. The treatment will enable you to switch off your mind, listen to what your body needs and provide an escape from the world. Working on an energetic level, it assists in balancing subtle energies, leaving you feeling more complete and at one with yourself.

We all need a haven from time to time; somewhere to regain our stability. Holistic massage can provide that space.

Indian Head Massage
Indian head massage is a traditional technique of manipulating soft tissues in the shoulders and scalp. At Back To Touch this treatment also includes face, upper back, arms and hands and can incorporate remedial techniques if appropriate. It is carried out in a specially designed massage chair, through clothing and does not use any oils or creams.

An excellent relief for headache sufferers and for people who have a lot of upper body stress, Indian Head Massage is a great alternative to a full body treatment, especially on days when you find yourself short of time.

Indian Head Massage is a fantastic introduction for those who have never experienced massage before and is no less holistic than oil massage.

As with full body treatments the session is tailored to suit your needs. You can be left calm and relaxed or alert and ready for action – or anywhere in between.

Seated / On-Site Acupressure Massage
Seated Acupressure Massage is given on a specially designed ergonomic chair.

This rejuvenating form of bodywork is very inclusive and does not just treat the back and neck but also includes the arms, hands, head and shoulders - leaving you refreshed yet relaxed and calm. Acupressure Massage helps to reduce tension in areas like the neck and shoulders using a combination of techniques, including massage, stretching and the “pulsing” of acupressure points. Along with other techniques adapted from the massage table.

The treatment is carried out through clothing and therefore no oils are used - although some clients like to have oils used for the hand part of the treatment. It is as tailored to your needs as a table massage and is in no way less holistic. The immediate positive effects makes this treatment ideal for the workplace or event.

Massage has been shown to relieve the stresses and strains from your working day and the related aches and pains which undoubtedly build up as a result - including relieving and preventing common ailments such as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). As the sessions are designed to meet the specific needs of the client it ensures that the time spent on the treatment is as effective as possible for client and company.

Seated Acupressure Massage can be carried out anywhere – at exhibitions, in the workplace or special events, for the benefit of company employees or private individuals. Please contact me for more details.

Massage for Pregnancy
Having a baby is a wonderful experience, but being pregnant does tax the mother-to-be. Now, more than ever, expectant mothers are finding out that prenatal massage can help make pregnancy less physically stressful.

During the processes of pregnancy and childbirth the mother-to-be experiences many dramatic physical changes, including additional stress on the lower back and joints as her delivery date approaches and her body prepares for the "big push".

Regular massage can relieve neck and back pain from muscle stress and weakness, and begin to prepare muscles for use during the delivery process. Prenatal massage is usually performed with the client in a side-lying position, supported by pillows. It is great for relieving the aches and pains that arise during a pregnancy. Sciatic pain may also become a problem during the final trimester as the weight of the unborn child settles lower in the body and the hips begin to spread, creating extra pressure on the muscles and nerves of the spine and lower back area. This pain, which is often caused by constriction in the gluteus and piriformis muscles, can be eased tremendously with massage.

As the time of delivery approaches, hands, feet and legs may begin to swell, and it becomes increasingly difficult to find a comfortable position. Regular massage can provide welcome relief by decreasing severity and frequency of leg cramps and reducing swelling of legs, hands and feet. More frequent sessions have been shown to be extremely beneficial during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy.

Nurturing, supportive touch feels good at any time, but the additional relaxation and relief it provides during pregnancy makes it especially appreciated. The role of massage in supporting the function of muscles and joints, improving circulation and relieving physical discomfort and fatigue is well documented.

In a study conducted by the University of Miami School of Medicine it was shown that massage reduced stress hormones in the body benefiting both mother and baby! A prenatal massage is a wonderful gift for any lady-in-waiting, and completely safe for most mothers.

Before the first prenatal massage can take place you will need to provide information about your pregnancy - including any problems or complications - and about your general health. In the presence of contraindications such as diabetes, high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia you may need prior approval from your obstetrician, midwife or primary doctor for the safety of you and/or your unborn child.
